To achieve that critical balance, your District maintains a network of canals, water control devices, structures, and systems, including natural eco-systems that improve water quality, and provide a viable habitat for wildlife and recreational opportunities for our residents.
Your East County Water Control District, which encompasses over 63,000 acres of land and approximately 311 miles of canals, was created on May 5, 1958. The District is a "political sub-division of the State of Florida" and is funded through acreage assessments on all parcels within its boundaries.
Your District is governed by a five member Board of Supervisors who are elected by the registered voters of the community. These Supervisors, who are elected by seat and run on a non-partisan ballot in the regular biennial election, serve four year terms
